Ranohira

Ranohira was where I stopped to visit the Isola National Park, an expanse of terrific scenery and wildlife to discover. It was here that I also had a private performance where local English students and their teacher re-enacted several Barra traditions – a rare and memorable opportunity to learn more about the people of this particular region.

I had no idea that Madagascar was still a place where people came to dig for gold and other precious stones. Excavated by hand, these businesses appeared to be thriving; Vietnamese, Middle Eastern and Indian owners mingled with the local people in small settlements scattered along the main road heading towards Tulear on the coast.
