Everyone is talking about the shooting incident that occurred in Khorog

Stories people are telling are getting more and more elaborate as the internet and telephones are down. It appears that a senior security guy was stabbed to death a few days ago by a maffia group just outside Khorog.

Additional, Tajik troops were flown in from Dushanbe and shooting broke out a few days later around the army compound in Khorog. People talked about the gun men on the hill tops firing across the valley and the explosions in the main street. I think about 70 people were reported dead  or injured.

Arriving in Khorog after the event was strange. The town was empty, people had left for safety in neighbouring villages and others were still hesitant to go outside even though the situation had stablised.

I saw plenty of evidence of bullet holes in walls and windows and a few damaged cars. This event will no doubt impact on this town for months to come.
