A long train journey over to Xining through mountainous country side, sandy ground and dusty villages. I have managed some Chinese but will soon have to muster up some Urghur to manage through the Southern Silk routes where this is the predominant language. Locals tell me there is now a bus going direct from Xining to the first town, Huatugou on the Southern route so will now be able to miss out going so far south to Golmud.
