Mestia

Mestia and Ushguli are two villages that I visited in the Svaneti area of North West Georgia.

Due to their isolated location up in mountains bordering with Russia, these villages have been able to retain their unique traditions and culture. The strange looking koshki (defensive stone towers) remain in clusters within the valleys. They were used to house villagers and precious belongings during times of invasion and local strife. I sat on the roof of one, and got great views down the valley. Yet again, the mountain scenery and walks were fantastic. One hike was up to a glacier which I did accompanied by Ana from Estonia and two local guys.
