Kashgar
12 may 2012
Made it to Kashgar - hurray. I don't recognise anything.
The city has obviously grown enormously over the last twenty years and the old town is disappearing fast. This is the part I have walked through today and because most of the houses were made of adobe all that remains in many places is dust and crumbling walls. This is such a contrast to the high rise buildings going up round the suburbs. The Sunday market still thrives though and the colors of the fabrics are rich and vibrant. The central mosque is still the centre piece of the main square and surrounded by stalls selling crafts. I have bought a bus ticket to Tashkurgan so will be traveling as close as I can get to the Pakistan border tomorrow to see the scenery along the Karakoram highway.
