Charklik to Chechen

8 may 2012

Today I have travelled further along the modern silk road towards Chechen

I was accompanied by a hysterical couple of older women who struggled to hold a conversation with me through drawings, gestures and Uighur language. They were real characters and managed to munch through a bag of boiled eggs and apples and a couple of litres of orange juice all with no teeth. Our passengers included a goat which had to lie on the road at each stop.

Chechen is another great colourful desert town with some extremely glamorous women riding around on scooters. I passed the schools at dismissal time today - 7.30pm.... the children don't wear uniform and most are picked up by their parents on scooters and whisked away home to houses built on the outskirts of the town.
